Currently I have a tippmann a-5. Since this was my first marker, I wanted to get something that's easy to break-down (for cleaning) and won't disintegrate the first time I run into a tree.

I'd also like to get a pump (not necessarly stock-class). I've heard alot of good things about Palmer's Houndstooth. It's expensive, but seems to have the craftsmanship and sturdiness to be worth it.

What kind of markers do you use in the field?

Spyder TL - now with MAKO e-grip
ACI Maverick Pump
WGP 2000 Autococker - upgraded
Air Power Vector - loud as hell and antichop bolt, whats not to love
pVi Shocker - 30 pounds of electropunmatic goodness, still needs TLC to get working
Mcarterbrown.com PGP - nice and shiney, and PPS upgrades
Indian Creek Engineering Panther VTS - just a decent gun (but if you have an extra barrel for one, PM me!)

Got a few more, but thats all I use. Houndstooth, a VERY nice gun, built from the ground up. Might also want to look into a Pug, if you preffer pistol types (there is one on ebay right now to that belongs to a friend of mine, check it out). I hope to get a Nasty Typhoon or Hurricane some day, but for the Huric, I need to find an old Blue Streak pellet gun.

Look on ebay for a Sheridan P-68 or P-68AT (or any of the P series), if you like the sheridan brass, much cheaper than a palmer's built gun, and if you want, you can have it "palmerised" by them. You can also find them over at www.mcarterbrown.com .

There is also always the nelson camp, like the Trracers and Phantoms. Good design, simple to keep and use. Much lighter often times, and pretty durable.

The biggest difference is the feel. Some poeple prefer how light a nelson based gun is, some like the weight and undercocking feel of a sheridan base (like a WGP Sniper, Sterling, Illusion, etc).

I was looking at Phantoms too...they seem to be highly regarded and less expensive that the Palmers.

At this point, all I can go on is word-of-mouth or current owners' reviews. Its kinda like buying your first car....you might want a 300hp sports car, but in reality maybe the VW Passat is more your style.

BTW, what does PGP and PPS stand for?

madcat

not sure what pgp stands for.

if you would like to play with a pgp or a phantom you are welcomed to use one of mine, although if want to use a pgp you maybe better of asking azzy, his is in much better shape than mine.

just let me know and i can get them to azzy if need be so you can play a game with them

Thanks Prince Valiant! The next time you and Azzy are at the field, I'll try to make it out too. I'd just like to see how it feels (balance, weight, slide pull, etc.)

Are Phantoms picky with paint, or can you run just about anything through them?

i have never had any problem with paint in the phantom, from cheap stuff to marbs. it takes it all.

if anything rapid firing with a pump can be a little bit to get use to
