For those of you have used the ION, would you recomend the gun to someone who is just starting out in pb. Is it reliable? Easy to maintain? Would it be smart to go HPA? I've only been playing now for about 3 months but have really gotten into the sport. I'd possibly like to join a team in the future, but only after I get some more practice which is why I want to stray away from the spyder xtra that I'm using now. Any feedback you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest no no I'm telling you to buy a HPA tank. I'm probably not the

i would recommend it. i play in a good amount of tournies and it sounds like you want to too. its a great gun to begin with and a decent gun for playing with advanced levels. its fairly easy to maintain and its very reliable for me.

Learn you game, not your gun.

Movement wins more games than firepower. Play with one gun for a long time (as long as it feels good to you) and pratcice shooting, snap shooting, and movment.

Ions are great, once you get the kinks out like POSSIBLE leaks and problems like defective boards or anything like that. I'm not sayin that it would happen I'm just saying that all the people I know who have Ions all had problems, like faulty boards, and leaks, but after they get fixed they work fine. The only bad thing I can really say about them is that you'll shoot a lot of paint

As for regs, CP's are great. I have one and have no problems, but the stock reg is fine

DON'T USE CO2! STICK TO HPA, even if its Anti-Siphoned(sp) it will still cause probs. My friend had a A/S 20oz on his and he blew mis macro line and cracked a hose in his gun, I don't know why. A quick fix but why go through the trouble?

A new barrel is always nice, if your on a budget, a J&J is cheap and accurate.

As for getting one, thats all up to you :)

no matter what the gun, macro line that is commonly sold will not hold full CO2 or HPA pressure. It is usualy rated for 200-300 psi burst, which means it will hold more, but cant be counted to do so.

It should be used as rated, and if a place cant show you a rating sheet or let you know what it is rated for, dont use it. it isnt worth possible injury and a damaged gun (seen them go flying after a burst)

I can no longer speak highly of the Ion. The feed neck construction is sub-par, so much that you have to be careful sliding aggressively into bunkers. I have already ripped mine out of the breach and had to gorilla-glue it back on. The trigger micro-switch wears easily and will no longer push the trigger away so it is hard to walk the trigger.

Those are my only two gripes about it. But you can show up to a tryout and not get laughed off the field. I tried out with a Level D-2 team and made it with an Ion. I played in a small tourney in Waco recently and I was smacking fools with DM4's and shockers. I will be playing in the NPPL with the Unbreakables which is an Angel-sponsored team. I will be getting the G-7 Fly.

Azzy is right, it is more in your game than the gun. But having a quality trigger makes a big difference.

Hey Mitshu04 - Does Penn State now have a paintball team? I thought I remember hearing something about colleges taking this seriously now?
