Post subject:  Reg?

I'm new to the sport and was trying to decide what to buy for my gun next and I was thinking of either an expansion chamber or a regulator. Which would be a better buy?

If using CO2 with a reg do you need a tank with an anti-syphon tube?

A regulator is the better bet. Anti-siphon helps too, even without one.

Will a regulator help in cold weather with CO2 like an expansion chamber?

Properly set up it should, but no matter what, some guns dont like cold weather. I have a few that wont shoot under 50 degrees, no matter what you run them on.

From what I read on palmers site liquid c02 cannot exist under 600psi, so if you get a spring kit and set your gun to run sub 600 psi it should be fine.

I ussally use a nelson clone with springs and a reg in the winter, because velocity changes alot with temperature.

Azzy is right thought, some guns just don't like winter, a stingray won't re-cock in the winter because at around 40 degrees c02 have about 33% less presure and very stiff springs. It really depends on the size of the air-holes in the gun and the springs.

Then again, some guns run great if they can handle liquid CO2...

Like say a 68 Special or Vector

(Then again, PPS guns are supposed to run on liquid OK, just not for too long)
