I recently picked up a VM-68 (not magnum or EXC) from Ebay. One of the first things that I noticed about the marker is that it will eat up a 20 oz of CO2 fast and that the velocity seemed to spike every 5 shots or so. The o-rings are all fine. I have a replacement bolt (starfire) inbound.

With the front ASA, I'm not sure how I could encorporate an expansion chamber /regulator.

After some web searches, I found that there were (emphasis on past-tense) after market mods for the VM (namely, the pro comp v3 from airgun dynamics and the pro shot kit). Neither are in production any more :x

All of the upgrades/mods that I found were mostly front grips, grip adjustments and stocks....nothing that addresses the gas efficiency.

I've written Doc's Machine to see if he's interested in taking a whack at it...but do any of you have any suggestions?

thanks

Rudy

you might want to get a PMI 6 stage expansion chamber and an all american barrel, i have the EXC myself and will have it at the season opener. you can rig the expansion chamber into the ASA and possibly get a bottom line for it, i use an Air America assasin kit on mine which replaces the rear bolt plug. then i run a gas through stock with a coil remote to a 20 oz. in an 8+1 harness. my gun only fluxuates 3 FPS even when i rapid fire, i've been using it for 10 years. i can take a look at it for you if you's like.

I'll probably bring it out on Sunday, but I don't know how much I'll use it.

Personally, I don't have much experience with major mods, so your advice is very much appreciated.

After seeing this picture from Doc's Machine, my boring ol' VM has been dreaming of becoming something cool

mods of this kind are waaay out of my league. If I could get my mitts on the pro comp kit, I might be able to get the ball moving though

I think that Palmer's does VM custom work as well, but I could be wrong.

You can rig up just about any bottom line to any expansion chamber that goes to an ASA, like Phoenix said. You could also go with a reg there, but its got to have a high flow to keep up with that gas hog.

Cooper-T has a nice internals upgrade kit www.cooper-t.com

and check out Chris Mader's (one of the fellows from carters site) www.vm68.com and www.vmempire.com for stuff. Ebay is great for barrels, or maybe buddy can sell you one if you asked nicely.. but I doubt it. Those are his staple rental.

Cant wait to see what you do with it, there is so much potential there (I've seen on modded to an electro pneumatic gun capable of 20bps), its like a giant, aluminum canvas....

I spoke with Glenn about what he can do. About the extent of work he'll do on the VM is a valve job and some re-honing on the internals.

There's no harm in keeping the VM "true to form", but I'd rather see if I can get it mod'd into some Jedi killing maching ;)

I've heard a VM can be made full-auto without firing so fast as to be unfeedable. Mechically that is.

Same as any Promaster / F1 based blowback. Drop the sear and hold it there, and you go full auto, about 30 or so BPS. I hear a q-loader can feed it, I know of one person who got 40bps full auto off of a modded stingrayII
