Obviously something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

What is a fair market value for a used Tippmann 98 Custom?

I am very interested in buying my first marker, but really like the military look, such as the M4/M16. It seems like there is a ton of parts and upgrades for the 98 models, including the stock, barrel, sight rail and magazine.

I have a budget for all of my hobbies and it is as cheap as possible. I like to buy things that are reliable and long lasting, even if they are used and require some maintenance or fixing up. Someone else can absorb the high cost of the purchase and I can reap the reward!

I am not a hard core baller, but wouldn't mind getting into the sport some more. Getting some pricing info from people that are into this hobby is a start.

Thanks!

i have a a-5 and the 98 is basically the same thing now excpet minor parts.

flatline barrel- 90-120 depending on were u get it.
double trigger- 10-30
cyclone feed-40

that will badiscally do it except for maybe a new trigger kit such as a responce but i am not sure if they make them for the 98's

IF you want the look right off, the BT guns are pretty nice, have the look and the tippman heritage that keeps them good guns.

So would $100 be too much, or too little for a used 98 with no mods? They go about $150 new I beleive.

When you say BT, do you mean things like the BT16 Barrel and stuff? I've seen a few of those BTs out there.

As I stated, I wouldn't mind starting with a plain 98 or even an A5 and then modding from there, but the A5 bumps the budget up significantly. I don't mind paying, but I do have to pay for the field and paint too!

I am just trying to get a feel for the used marker market, but I do appreciate the suggestions, so keep them coming!

Has anyone read about or experienced the Recon E5 by Game Face? They go about $279 or so and look great. Performance is another issue. Anyone?

BT=Benn Tippman

I don't have any Tippman but a lot of people i know do and they seem to be light, strong, durable, and long lasting.

I've heard that BT guns are heavy but its because they're all alluminum, and since its a Tippman, you know it'll be good.

Some "sim" guns seem overpriced because your paying for the look, and you can get the look you want with any Tippman cheaper than other sim guns.

I missed a Recon E5 that was on Ebay. It went for under $150.

I thought the BT stood for Ben Tippman <---different from Tippmann?

Anyone know the story behind this?

From a performance standpoint, I dont think I need to fire a million balls per minute, so Semi Auto fire would be just fine. ON the other hand having greater fire power on hand is always nice.

I am going to keep my eye out for some 98 stuff. I think that I will buy a brand new 98 custom of some sort and then look for used mods.

Thanks for the input!

A5 = not needing to buy a powered loader.

BT = Ben Tippman, tippman design, but beefier. Reading the review on warpig.com, they sound like quite the gun.

Avoid like a plauge anything from araikon or whatever their name is. All looks... at a very high price.

As for a model 98, the price has dropped quite a bit, you can find them decently used on ebay for well under 100.
