I just played last Sunday up Riverside Renegades. Great field, great staff. Had a blast. I'll be sure to visit up there often once I get my job back here soon. Also, I've been reading about that league. Sounds excellent. I know it would be impossible to get 12 people on a team, but I can maybe get a few and we could join an existing team. Lemme know. Phoenix, you work at Gander Mountain in West Mifflin?? I live in Jefferson Hills, really close to there. Been there a few times too. What's your name? We should hook up sometime to play... Of course I gotta get another gun first, my brand new spyder shutter was leaking co2 last sunday and the regulator broke. Im in the process of returning that then lookin for a new gun.

Welcome aboard :)

Sorry I couldnt get your spyder working. Im suprised it didnt come with an extra cup seal (mine came with 2).

Need a good gun that wont let you down? There are plenty to choose from, it all depends on your price range. For what you paid for a shutter, you can get a Tippman A5, pretty rugged. Ask MadCat about them, he's got one thats pretty well upgraded.

And dont be afraid to buy used. Look into it all, and ask questions. Many of us here will be glad to answer them :)

I bought my shutter for $130. Hit me up with any suggestions for guns in that price range. I was thinking of a diablo mongoose maybe.

The A-5 is a very reliable marker -- easy to break down, but nearly impossible to break. It's a bit more expensive than your Shutter, but it's worth every penny (Tippmann's made their name with durable, reliable markers)

I've upgraded the barrel (from stock to AA / freak front) and added a regulator (palmer stabilizer). Okay, okay, I added the E-grip too... :P

I'll be at the field every "walk on" Sunday as well as the league. Come see me and I'll let you take it for a ride :)

Mongoose is a Spyder is a Piranha is a Silver Bullet is a....

Cant say much about NPS guns (Thats who really makes the Mongoose), I haven't really tried the Joker I have sitting here out yet.

For 130, you have a lot of options. Look in the for sale section, I posted a link to a really good used spyder package.

I would also recommend used guns, especially if the seller has good feedback from trading with others. For 130, you can get just about anything. I picked up a stock 2000 Autococker for 120 dollars plus shipping. Used Automags can be had for just a bit more, if you look for them. For 50 dollars more, you can buy a Tribal kit and build one of those (Like an impulse, only a bit shorter). Look on ebay, hit the Tinker's Guild: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/73032
or Paint Magazine:
http://www.paintmagazine.com/cgi-bin/cu ... pl?forum=5

for good deals and reputable folks. Even the forums at Automags.org can have a few good deals. Stray away form pbnation.com, I have heard of too many shady deals there.

If you find a deal, don't be shy to ask around if its a good one.

I had a piranha until recently that I was very pleased with. True, it is the same as any Spyder or other stacked-tube gun, but I thought it was prettier. More significantly, the welds on my gun were much cleaner than I ever saw on any Kingman gun...

I sold my Piranha, though, and bought a bare-bones Automag for $150. You can find one for even less without too much trouble. My geberal feeling is that you should get a Spyder or clone if you are looking for a gun around $100, no more. Get a few upgrades, most importantly a new barrel. If you are going to spend more than $200 all told, it's worth it to get an Automag or Autococker. If you want something utterly dependable, get the mag, if you want something to tinker with and customize out the wazoo, get the cocker. The performance of either of those two is greater than a Spyder, and to get a Spyder to match one would take far more money.

I've never been a fan of Tippmanns. I find them too unwieldy and lack any feature to set them above other guns, yet they are more expensive than Spyder-types. If you want reliable, get a Mag, it's more reliable. Unless, of course, you want to use a Flatline, then you have to get a Tippmann.

It all depends on who you talk to, yea, Spyders, pirahnas, tippmans, diablos, are all good, you just have to try some out and see what you like. all have their benefits, some more than others, you already have one of the best guns made, if it's a leaking cup seal, i have extras that i'll have at the season opener. i've used a spyder for four years, against every gun on the maket and held my own against everyone with an "upgraded gun" then a VM-EXC for 6 years before that. and last year i got an Impulse Vision. yea, cockers are good, but you have to keep up with maintnace on them, and an Automag is only a short range gun, no affence CMU, but i haven't seen a mag yet that has any range to it. they were mainly built for speedball. if you think you need a new gun, stop up Gander Mountain and i'll show you some that fit the bill. my name is Chris

Any paintball fired at a speed of 300 FPS is going to go the same distance, at the same peed and accuracy. How the valve moves air to move the ball down one polished tube or another is irrelevant. Its all in the science. There is no such thing as a more accurate gun. There may be one that you feel better shooting, thus you do better with it, thus, more accuracy. Then again, I know people who no matter what gun you put in their hand, couldnt hit themselves in the foot if they tried.

As for cockers being unreliable, thats one of the biggest paintball myths, next to barrel rifling. Once upon a time, the front regs were crap, and you had to fiddle with it all the time to get working. They have fixed that after the 10 years they have been making them. If you fiddle with it, will it go down? Yeah, but so will anything else if you fiddle wrong. (can I say fiddle one more time :P )

Mags and Cockers are both excellent guns, can both be customized to the users liking no matter what feel is wanted, and are both reliable machines. They have been a staple in tournament use for years, and those guys put guns through way worse each tourney than we put our's through in a year.

Tippman are another option, they may not have options, but they are built like a tank. Some like or don't like the mil-sim look they have, so that may be a factor in your choice.

That said, I also say rent a few more times, ask us if you want to shoot any of our guns, you can try any of mine, just let me know so I can bring whatever up. If you like the spyder you had, you will have no problem with the Mongoose.

Then again, you might find that you like using a slingshot, and show us all :D
