Any paintball fired at a speed of 300 FPS is going to go the same distance, at the same peed and accuracy. How the valve moves air to move the ball down one polished tube or another is irrelevant. Its all in the science. There is no such thing as a more accurate gun. There may be one that you feel better shooting, thus you do better with it, thus, more accuracy. Then again, I know people who no matter what gun you put in their hand, couldnt hit themselves in the foot if they tried.
As for cockers being unreliable, thats one of the biggest paintball myths, next to barrel rifling. Once upon a time, the front regs were crap, and you had to fiddle with it all the time to get working. They have fixed that after the 10 years they have been making them. If you fiddle with it, will it go down? Yeah, but so will anything else if you fiddle wrong. (can I say fiddle one more time

Mags and Cockers are both excellent guns, can both be customized to the users liking no matter what feel is wanted, and are both reliable machines. They have been a staple in tournament use for years, and those guys put guns through way worse each tourney than we put our's through in a year.
Tippman are another option, they may not have options, but they are built like a tank. Some like or don't like the mil-sim look they have, so that may be a factor in your choice.

It all depends on who you talk to, yea, Spyders, piranhas, tippmans, diablos, are all good, you just have to try some out and see what you like...
That said, I also say rent a few more times, ask us if you want to shoot any of our guns, you can try any of mine, just let me know so I can bring whatever up. If you like the spyder you had, you will have no problem with the Mongoose.
Then again, you might find that you like using a slingshot, and show us all
